Honors English 11 Extra Credit for The Crucible

Hello, Honors American literature students!

If anyone is in need of some extra points to help out with his/her grade, please consider the following extra credit opportunities.  If you have any questions, please ask!

Extra Credit Opportunity #1

MOOD DEPICTION:

There are several moods depicted throughout the play The Crucible.  Write a short paragraph or poem of your own using words and phrases to convey one of these moods or a mood of your own:

Apologetic, Furious, Shocked, Restrained, Curious, Hysterical, Pleading, Gentle, Protective, Horrified, Respectful, Carefree, Foreboding, Humorous, Happiness, Sadness

If you choose to write a paragraph, try to use as many descriptive terms as you can to convey your mood. The paragraph should be at least 10 solid sentences.  If you choose to write a poem, use rhyming words if you wish, or use free verse.  Include any figurative language you can, including simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, onomatopoeia, for example.  The poem should be at least 10 lines.

These will be posted in class and should be word processed.  Participants may receive UP TO 10 points of extra credit.  Due date:  Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Extra Credit Opportunity #2

CREATING A COLLAGE:

Choose one of the following subjects that pertains to The Crucible and create a collage to illustrate that concept.  Use a wide variety of materials to make your collage interesting.  Some suggested items are magazine clippings, drawings, photographs, symbolic items, art supplies, and any other appropriate materials.  When you are finished, include a word-processed explanation of how each item on your collage is is related to your subject.

Reading Assignment 4/11-4/14 Honors English 11

Please read one of the following articles regarding the Salem Witch Trials and one of the following articles regarding the McCarthy Hearings.  Provide your comments about what you have read and add them to the blog.  This "written" discussion needs to be completed by class time on Tuesday, April 15, and will be graded. In your discussion, please specify which articles you have read, give your thoughts and any questions you might have on the topics, and feel free to add any other prior knowledge you can share with your peers.
