Daily Announcements
Forte
Papillion-La Vista South Titan Band presents Forte, the indoor marching band experience. They will be on stage Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20, at 7:00 pm, as well as Sunday, March 21, at 2:00 pm, in the Titan Theater. Forte brings all the exciting music, choreography, and color of marching band to a spectacular inside setting. This year’s theme is “Imagination” as the Titan Marching Band takes you on a musical trip through the human mind. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students (12 and under), and can be purchased at the Titan Bookstore or at the door.
Attention Seniors!
School Traditions will deliver graduation announcements and other senior products TODAY during all three lunches. See the representatives near the Titan Café. Checks should be payable to School Traditions. Your entire order must be paid before you can pick up your products.
Commencement Speaker
Representing your class as Commencement Speaker is an experience you will never forget. If you are interested in trying out for Commencement Speaker and are in the top 15% of the class, please plan to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 24, at 3:40 pm, in room D03. If you have any questions, please see Dr. Kvasnicka, in room D03.
2010 Model United Nations Conference
It is time for the 2010 Model United Nations Conference at UNO. If you are interested in representing a country in the conference and you have taken or are currently taking AP Comparative Government, please see Mr. Keller. The registration deadline is March 20.
Boys Soccer
The Boys’ Soccer team will have their annual Blue – White Game (Varsity vs JV) on Wednesday, March 17, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, at the Stadium. Immediately following the game, there will be a short parent meeting in the stands for all three of the teams; Reserve, JV, and Varsity.
ITS / Drama Club
ITS and Drama Club will be meeting on Friday, March 19, at 7:30 am, in the Drama room. All members should attend.
Got Pennies?
A group of Student Council students are working with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in their Pennies for Patients program which is a service learning program for students to collect funds starting with their own spare change to support the research and patient services programs of LLS. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. If you would like more information, visit their website at www.LLS.org. If you would like to donate your spare change or have questions please see Bruce Peoples or Mrs. Guenther in room A04. Collections will run through Monday, March 22, and the funds that PLSHS raises will be sent to LLS.
Science Club
Science Club is meeting on Wednesday, March 17, after school, in room F15. We will be exploring the science of Root Beer! New members are always welcome!
Special Olympics
The Special Olympics will be held in Lincoln this year. The 2010 USA National Games will require the help of more than 8,000 dedicated volunteers. Volunteer positions include security, welcome committee, awards, information services, cheering committee, and more. One Acts
Looking for something fun to do? Then plan to attend the Drama 2 and Drama 3 student directed one acts on Tuesday, March 23, and Wednesday, March 24, beginning both nights at 6:30 pm. The best part is that it is FREE admission! Don’t miss these fun and entertaining one acts!
Key Club
Key Club will be meeting at 7:30 am, and 3:35 pm, in Ms. Peetz’s room on Thursday, March 18. All members must attend.
Become A Mentor!
If you are looking for a way to give back to the community, earn service hours, or just enjoy working with children, think about becoming a mentor. Any students interested in mentoring elementary students please contact Ms. Gomez in room B20.
Pretty For Prom
Skills USA is selling it first annual “Pretty For Prom” raffle tickets. Two bucks earns a chance at winning a basket of gift certificates to several beauty salons, day spas, and tanning salons in Papillion. The perfect package to get you ready for Prom or any other special occasion coming up in the future! Guys and girls can also purchase a ticket in the 50/50 Raffle. Skills USA will put $100 in the pot and each person to purchase a ticket will help the pot grow. The winner will get half of whatever is in the pot. If it is $100 or $100,000; they get half. Tickets will be sold during all lunches.
Step Squad
“That was phenomenal” and “it was the best show of the night” was just a couple of things to be said about the Papillion-La Vista South Step Squad at the Bellevue East Step Extravaganza this past weekend! Out of 11 step squads (including other high schools, fraternities, and sororities) your step squad received the one and only standing ovation of the night! They represented the Titans with pristine talent and made us very proud. Congratulations, Step Squad!
Support Groups
The Guidance Department is offering the following support groups to start after Spring Break: Blended Families Support Group and Stress Management Support Group. Please see your counselor if you are interested. Be sure to sign up BEFORE Spring Break!
Titan View
The March show of the Titan View, the student-produced news program, is now airing on COX Channel 18, at 7:15 am, 2:15 pm, and 9:15 pm. The show will air through March 19. It is also available for viewing online by clicking on the link on the front page of the school web site. Stories in this show include features on DECA, Prom, the All-School Play, sports, and many more!
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are now on sale for $66 in room B10, or online at www.yearbookforever.com. Features such as name stamps can only be purchased online through the end of April. If you are not sure if you have ordered a book, check the lists on the door of room B10.
Service Projects
Is your advisory or club trying to implement a service project? Please see Mrs. Settles in the 2 nd floor office to hear about some opportunities that she has been contacted about for service projects related to the earthquake devastation in Chile.
Advanced Placement Exam Registration
AP exam registration has begun and will go through Friday, March 26. Any student who would like to take an AP exam in May must turn in a registration form along with a payment deposit before spring break. Registration packets along with a bulletin were distributed through AP classes – extra forms are also available in Career Ed. The cost of each exam is $86. See Ms. Mead if you have any questions.
Interested in U.S. Service Academies?
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry will be hosting U.S. Service Academy Day 2010 at the Nebraska Air National Guard, 2420 West Butler Avenue, Lincoln, on Saturday, March 27. This is open to high school students and parents interested in the Congressional Nomination process. Campus Visits and Tours Available To Students

- University of Nebraska at Kearney – Wednesday, March 24
This is the first time we have a campus visit to UNK! They are providing a tour bus for Titan and Monarch students. Check out what UNK has to offer! The tour will be from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Permission slips are due Friday, March 19.
- University of Nebraska at Omaha – Friday, April 16
UNO is growing like crazy! We will tour the main campus but we will also visit the South campus to see where the new business school and dorms will be located. The tour will be from 8:30 am to 1:15 pm. Permission slips are due Wednesday, April 14.
- University of Nebraska at Lincoln – Wednesday, April 21
We will be attending UNL’s Junior Visit Day where you will have the opportunity to sit in sessions on financial aid, student life, and more while meeting with admissions reps and seeing the campus. The tour will be from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Permission slips are due Friday, March 26.
